Gospel Theater Group
Prepares for Summer Run

 By James I. Neusom, II

May 22, 2002

The Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre, a (non-profit 501c3) community youth organization is preparing for their 2002 summer program by staging a night of dinner and entertainment as their first official fundraiser.  The proceeds from this gala production will go to coving the operating expenses for their summer long theatrical youth program.

On Saturday May 25th at 6:30 the Palace Station Hotel and Casino will be hosting this community event that will feature the gospel play “This Ain’t NO Entertainment!”  Not only will supporters receive a full course meal while they enjoy this God inspired theatrical presentation but included in the festivities will be a Silent Auction and Live Musical Interludes.  Donations are $35 per person and seating is limited.  It promises to be a fun filled night of entertainment that will touch the hearts of all who see it.

The Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre has truly planed a night to be remembered that will help a worthwhile cause.  This community based youth group has been in existence for 12 years and was founded by local Playwright and Director, Mary-Etta Sayles Clinton.  The stage play “This Ain’t NO Entertainment!” is centered on a praying grandmother and her three troubled grandchildren.  It asks the age-old question; can the power of prayer overcome the influences of evil and greed?  The theatrical troupe is made up of local youth, community professionals and alumni from past summer programs.

This family friendly, community organization is a multicultural, non-denominational grass roots theatre group that prides itself on incorporating many races and faiths into homogeneous, love filled productions. They have been supported and backed by such prestigious local corporations as BankWest of Nevada and the Stations Casino Corporation but they need more help.  The Summer Youth Theater Program was developed to provide positive, life changing educational experiences for local youth.  To inquire about or participate in Sponsorship or volunteer opportunities contact Rev. Joseph Sayles, Executive Director at 702-807-1261.  Rev. Sayles is a community activist, local Television host, and Pastor of Abundant Grace Ministries.

The Summer Youth Theater Program is designed to give our youth an opportunity to get involved in the many aspects of theatre. The focus is not only on thespian skills but encompass the complete business of theatrical entertainment. Some of the offerings are: stage production, set building, music for theatre, costume design, lighting, auditioning, writing plays, casting charters, marketing and promotion, funding a play, record keeping, and more.  They are soliciting professionals from the various areas to donate their time for this worthy cause, and the proceeds from the production of "This Ain't No Entertainment" will go to this effort. The summer program is scheduled to run June thru August, with a final production gala in September.

Tell your friends about this charity fundraiser and talk to your boss or pastor about how they can support The Las Vegas Black Gospel Theatre’s Summer Youth Program.   This will be a can’t-miss night of gospel entertainment and the perfect opportunity to meet and mingle with the business, political and community elite of Las Vegas.  Come one, come all and bring a friend.
