Message From The Publisher
By Jim Neusom First let me give honor, recognition and thanks to God for bringing me through this two-year nightmare. Secondly, I wish to thank everyone that signed my petition and sent in letters, faxes and emails asking for leniency in my case (see list below). I truly believe your support helped moved the heart of Judge Takasugi to give me the most lenient sentence possible. On Monday Aug 2nd, the Judge turned down my two motions for a "Mistrial" (prosecutorial misconduct and felonious prosecution) and sentenced me to five years probation and "nominal" restitution. God is good and his mercy endures forever. Even though I have accepted responsibility for my actions (or inaction as the case may be), I still proclaim my innocence and declare that I was prosecuted on false and erroneous testimony. It's Not Over ... (Let the appeals begin) I now must face the reality that I am a convicted felon and will spend the next five years under government supervision. But all is not lost, I'm an intelligent, able-bodied, Black man ... more then capable of picking up the pieces of my life and carrying on. I'm not the first brother to be wrongly convicted of a felony, nor will I be the last. The goal now is to live my life in a way that this experience might be used to benefit others in their struggle against injustice and governmental bureaucracy. You can now expect to see more stories on the justice system and how decisions such as BLAKELY V. WASHINGTON (02-1632) affect brothers wrongly incarcerated by mandatory sentencing laws; more stories on the government and how congressional actions or inaction limit our rights and opportunities (see Social Security Protection Act of 2003 [H.R.743]); more stories on support groups for caretakers of the elderly and disabled in our society; and as always stories on afrocentric and multicultural technology based, issues, people, and websites. Please pray for me as I restructure my life. I'm starting all over again from scratch; no job, no home, no money. I'm currently in Los Angeles and looking to recruit a team of people with good tech skills (sweat-equity partners). As a technologist, I must "Walk the Talk" that I promote so enthusiastically within the pages of my online journal. So I'm developing a new start-up, based on cellular multimedia technology. I'm also looking for a regular job <smile> In the meantime tell your friends about the City Lights Reporter and keep your inbox open for future messages that will educate, empower and hopefully inspire. Remember: We Must Share The Knowledge, To Share The Dollars.
